Job Summary

The Mill Electrician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing electrical and instrumentation systems across the Mill and Filter Plant at Kettle River Operations. This role supports safe, reliable, and compliant operation of fixed plant equipment by performing advanced electrical work, assisting with instrumentation tasks, and contributing to commissioning, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives. All work is performed in alignment with Kinross values and in compliance with MSHA, state, and company policies and procedures.

Functions
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair on low‑ and medium‑voltage electrical systems in the Mill and Filter Plant.
  • Maintain, repair, and replace motors, MCC components, VFDs, transformers, switch gear, lighting systems, power distribution equipment, and electrical panels.
  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance on crushers, conveyors, pumps, thickeners, filter presses, and other fixed process equipment.
  • Assist with safe energization, lockout/tagout, and equipment isolation per site procedures.
  • Review electrical drawings, schematics, one‑lines, and technical documentation to support troubleshooting and maintenance planning.
  • Instrumentation & Control Systems
  • Install, calibrate, test, and service electrical instruments, control systems, and mill automation infrastructure.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot faults in motors, drives, PLCs, communication networks, and plant process control systems.
  • Calibrate, repair, and replace sensors, transmitters, and final control devices, maintaining required documentation.
  • Support upgrades and installation of new process instrumentation and automation systems.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools to assess equipment performance and resolve issues.
  • Commissioning, Reliability & Documentation
  • Support commissioning activities during restart phases, including equipment checks, electrical testing, and system verification.
  • Participate in root cause analysis for equipment failures and contribute to reliability improvements.
  • Document work performed, parts used, and corrective actions in the CMMS (e.g., JDE or similar).
  • Monitor, record, and report key data from inspections and maintenance activities.
  • Train junior staff and support continuous improvement of SOPs and technical procedures.
  • Work in accordance with MSHA regulations, Kinross policies, and electrical safety standards (NFPA 70E, LOTOTO, PPE requirements).
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment; identify, report, and correct hazards.
  • Participate in safety meetings, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an approved electrical apprenticeship or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • 5+ years of industrial, heavy industry, or mining electrical experience; instrumentation experience preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting capability on complex electrical systems, instrumentation, and process plant equipment.
  • Experience with motor controls, electrical distribution systems, VFDs, PLC/SCADA systems, and industrial electronics.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, one‑lines, P&IDs, and instrumentation layouts.
  • Proficient in lockout/tagout, job hazard analysis, and safe electrical work practices.
  • Effective communication and teamwork across maintenance, operations, and engineering groups.
  • Computer literacy for CMMS updates, work orders, and documentation.
