SPECIAL EDUCATION PARA EDUCATOR
Paul Rumberg Elementary
7 hours per day, normally 186 days per year; 44 days for remainder of 2025-26 school year
Begins 4/1/2026
Salary: $21.21 to $27.67 per hour
SCHEDULE:
OPEN UNTIL FILLED
PRIMARY DUTY:
Assist Special Education teachers with instructional and non-instructional activities to facilitate a positive learning environment for students. This position may include one-on-one support, instructing students individually or in small groups, preparing materials for instruction, maintaining student records, supervising student behavior, and supervising student activities on the playground, in the cafeteria and halls. Location may change based on student needs.

SPECIAL EDUCATION PARA EDUCATOR
JOB DESCRIPTION
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
* Ability to accept responsibility, take direction, and collaborate effectively with other staff members.
* Must have the ability to remain calm in high-stress situations.
* Ability to clearly communicate both orally in in writing; ability to observe and record data accurately.
* Ability to use good judgement as related to students and their positive behavior management.
* Ability to relate well with students and staff members. Must possess a team approach attitude.
* Ability to serve as a role model and to interact positively with students.
* Must be flexible and willing to adjust routine on short notice.
* Must be able to maintain confidentiality in all work-related matters.
* Ability to attend district led trainings, such as Safety Care Certification
* Ability to stand for an extended period of time; ability to lift 50 pounds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* High School Diploma or GED credential; and
* Applicants must also have one of the following:
* Associates of Arts (AA) Degree or higher; OR
* Minimum of 72 quarter credits from an accepted institution of higher education; OR
* Successful completion of the online ETS Para Pro Assessment
* Successful completion upon hiring of a criminal record and background check through the WA State Patrol and FBI
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Depending on the individual assignment, the Special Education Para educator may perform all, or a combination of several of the following:
* Work directly with students to provide instruction as determined by the teacher; modify and adapt instructional materials as necessary for individual students.
* Adhere to required program guidelines.
* Prepare specified materials, teaching aids, or equipment for use in the program as directed by the special education teacher.
* Communicate student progress and report learning or other difficulties encountered by students to the teacher
* Provide daily feeding and/or mealtime supervision, toileting and hygiene care as needed.
* Assist teachers with routine clerical duties such as copying materials, creating bulletin boards, using office equipment.
* Motivate students through effective communication and positive feedback.
* Monitor student behavior in the classroom, locker rooms, during lunch, recess, hallways, and field trips.
* Work effectively as a member of collaborative teams with staff members and administrators.
* Attend/participate in all required staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary by the district, to accomplish the objectives of the position, for professional development, and to meet state certification requirements for para educators.
* Attendance and punctually are critical functions of this position.
* Exhibit a positive attitude.
* Other duties as assigned by the teacher, principal, or program director.
