West Valley School District is seeking adaptable, dependable, and collaborative individuals to join our team as Core Substitute Teachers. Core Subs are assigned primarily to either the elementary or secondary grade band, but may be reassigned as needed to support district-wide coverage. This role requires a high degree of flexibility, strong classroom management skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse student populations across various school sites.

PAY RATE
* $175 per day (7 hours per day, including a 30-minute unpaid duty-free lunch)
* Guaranteed daily work on student learning days during the school year
SUMMARY
Under the direction and supervision of the building principal or designee, this position will substitute for district teachers by educating, motivating, inspiring, and assessing students in the grade/subject assigned. Each Core Substitute Teacher will have a primary site assignment, however, these staff may be reassigned based on District-wide substitute needs.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
* Provide clear and intentional focus on subject matter content and curriculum using established content standards and available resources and technology.
* Use effective teaching practices by helping students effectively interact with new knowledge, practice and deepen knowledge, and engage in cognitively complex tasks.
* Use effective teaching practices including asking questions of students, probing incorrect answers of students, and noticing when students are not engaged.
* Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment. Be responsible for constructive classroom management and environment.
* Follow lesson plans and instructional materials as provided.
* Translate lesson plans into learning experiences and efficiently utilize the available time for instruction.
* Supervises students both in and outside of the classroom during the assigned working day.
* Maintain appropriate student records.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Valid Washington State teaching certificate, no later than the first day of substitute teaching, with appropriate endorsements as required by law and regulations.
* Valid Washington State driver's license or evidence of mobility.
* Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance.
* I-9 for verification of identity and employment eligibility for work in the United State
* Completion of all district-required training within thirty (30) calendar days from the hire date.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS
* Demonstrate value and respect for all, including typically underserved students.
* Demonstrate mature behavior and ability to use sound judgment in working with students, parents, staff, and the community.
* Relate positively to students and parents/guardians of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, different learning styles, and various abilities and disabilities.
* Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills with students, staff, administrators, and parents/guardians.
* Training and/or experience with technology integrating technology into planning, teaching and learning, and record-keeping skills.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Substitute positions are employed as on-call positions and paid for hours worked.
Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed before employment commences. The successful candidate for this position must complete a fingerprinted background check with the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Employment is contingent upon clearance of the background check.
