NOTE:
This position is open to qualified Cle Elum-Roslyn School District employees February 11 - 18th, 2025. Grades TK-2 | Early Learning & Primary Literacy
Position Overview
The Elementary Early Literacy Specialist is a highly skilled instructional leader who supports early literacy outcomes for all students in grades Transitional Kindergarten through second grade. This role blends deep expertise in the science of reading, early literacy intervention, and special education, with a strong commitment to inclusive practices and early intervention.
This position is designed for an educator who understands that early identification and support change life trajectories, and is ready to lead systems-not just serve students. In addition to providing direct literacy intervention and instructional support, the Early Literacy Specialist serves as a special education case manager for TK-2 students, ensuring high-quality IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring aligned to grade-level standards.
Key Responsibilities
Early Literacy Instruction & Intervention
* Design, deliver, and monitor high-quality, evidence-based literacy interventions for students in grades TK-2, aligned to the science of reading and district MTSS frameworks
* Analyze universal screening, progress-monitoring, and diagnostic data to inform instructional decisions and intervention intensity
* Support early identification of students at risk for reading difficulties, including characteristics of dyslexia
* Collaborate with classroom teachers to strengthen Tier I literacy instruction and ensure alignment between core instruction and intervention
* Model effective early literacy instructional practices, including phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension
Instructional Leadership & Collaboration
* Serve as a thought partner and instructional leader for TK-2 educators, contributing to PLC conversations and literacy planning
* Provide coaching, modeling, and feedback to teachers and para educators supporting early literacy instruction
* Partner with administrators, specialists, and support staff to strengthen district wide early literacy systems
* Support family understanding of early literacy development and intervention through clear, collaborative communication
Special Education Case Management (TK-2)
* Serve as special education case manager for assigned TK-2 students, ensuring compliance with IDEA and state regulations
* Develop high-quality IEPs that are standards-aligned, strengths-based, and instructionally meaningful
* Coordinate and lead IEP meetings in collaboration with families, general education teachers, and service providers
* Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals and adjust instruction as needed
* Ensure services, accommodations, and specially designed instruction are implemented with fidelity
Qualifications
Required:
* Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate
* Special Education Endorsement
* Minimum 5 years of successful teaching experience, preferably in early learning and/or primary grades
* Demonstrated expertise in early literacy instruction and intervention
* Reading Endorsement or extensive experience in early literacy intervention
* Experience working with students with reading disabilities, including dyslexia
Preferred:
* Strong knowledge of MTSS, progress monitoring, and data-driven decision making
* Ability to balance instructional leadership with special education compliance and case management responsibilities
* Leadership experience (e.g., literacy coach, instructional coach, teacher leader, or similar role)
* Strong facilitation and collaboration skills

180 CEREA Contract with a 4 day supplemental contract

Two plan choices available with DRS, Plan 2 and Plan 3.
* Salary:
Depending on verified years of experience, clock hours, and education. Range is shown below.
