Para educator – In‑School Suspension
Bethel School District
Part‑time position: 2.5 hours per day, 106 days per year (primarily Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday).
Pay: PSE Salary Schedule Level 3 – $21.61
Responsibilities- Supervise students assigned to in‑school suspension; monitor behavior; correct behaviors and maintain discipline according to established policies. Instruct students in behavioral rules and codes for safety, socialization, and growth.
- Process disciplinary notices, mail to appropriate parent or guardian, and maintain records in student files and on computer.
- Enter attendance data, run required reports, verify absences, and call parents as necessary.
- Prepare and mail deficiency notices each semester; track absences of at‑risk students; remind students of responsibilities; complete form for teacher assignments; maintain records.
- Enter data, print lists for honor level program, input demerit slips and discipline records daily; notify teachers of prohibited participation in assemblies, dances, and after‑school activities; print reward slips for top honor students.
- Monitor students in lunchroom who have been assigned to lunch detention; supervise students who are required to eat lunch in the detention room.
- Assign and maintain lockers for students.
- Supervise student behavior in hallways and maintain orderly movement.
- Collect homework, assignment, and books for absent students due to illness or suspension.
- Prepare, duplicate, collate, and distribute materials; operate a variety of office equipment.
- Serve on district committees and/or departmental work teams as needed.
- Model appropriate cooperation, protect confidential information, and follow district ethical guidelines.
- Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
Reports to the school principal or assigned administrator.
Mental DemandsMay experience frequent interruptions; required to handle a wide range of student behaviors and academic abilities; track a wide range of student actions; occasionally encounter distraught or difficult students.
Physical DemandsMay sit or stand for prolonged periods; may be exposed to visual display terminals; potential exposure to ordinary infectious diseases carried by students.
Minimum QualificationsEducation, training, skills, and experience necessary to carry out the assignment, with experience working with at‑risk adolescents preferred; experience maintaining detailed records and operating a personal computer preferred.

- Ability to learn the use of computers and various software packages.
- Ability to learn the operation of general office machines.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff.
Special Requirements
Requires fingerprinting and background check to confirm no convictions involving physical molestation, abuse, injury or neglect of a minor. Must complete training in and adhere to the district infection control plan.
