Drive bus to transport residents over specified routes to local or distant points according to time schedule; maintains vehicles to ensure safe operations; oversees safety of residents during transport.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Operates vehicles in compliance with all safety and traffic rules and regulations established by ADF and/or the District of Columbia.

Transports residents from all levels of care (Hall, Terrace, HSC, SCC) over specified routes to local or distant points according to time schedule

Inspects buses for all systems and documents inspections on approved forms daily before first trip of the day (including but not limited to oil, gas, coolant, transmission fluid, and radiator water level checks, tire pressure checks, mirror orientation, check of lights, etc.). Maintains vehicle to ensure safe operations.

Maintains cleanliness and general care of vehicles at all times.

Coordinates transportation/resident needs with supervisor.

Follows prescribed routes and time tables established with supervisor and in compliance with local traffic regulations.

Maintains the welfare and safety of all passengers riding the vehicle.

Assists with residents with special needs, including but not limited to properly securing wheel chairs and motorized conveyances; oversees safety of residents during transport.

In the event of an accident, calls supervisor or Director of Facilities immediately. In addition, completes accident investigation form (forms kept on bus – completed form should be given to supervisor directly as these forms are for Knollwood internal use.)

Assists passengers on and off the bus.

Ensures that all residents are on bus for return trip.

Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems in vehicles for passenger comfort.

Maintain radio station as directed and level for residents at all time when residents are present.

Loads or unloads baggage as needed by residents. Provides for resident needs within the scope of job description.

Notifies supervisor of any delays, accidents, problems or irregularities immediately.

Keeps cell phone charged and, on the bus, when driving/on person when not driving.

Records receipts for vehicle related pre-approved purchases.

Completes daily Worxhub reports using tablet provided

Completes courier services as needed and as schedule permits.

Assist with Security rounds, as bus schedule permits and as directed by supervisor.

Work schedule may require driving outside of regular scheduled hours which could include working evenings and a weekend.

Assists with other Knollwood services as assigned by supervisor, including but not limited to:

Assisting with small package delivery

Posting flyers as directed by supervisor

Additional duties that may be assigned to bus driver such as:

• scheduling washing/detailing, drop off bus for repairs such as camera installation, lift repair, other repair and maintenance, etc. per request from supervisor

COMPENSATION: Starting $22.38 BOE

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); experience with the elderly preferred.

2 years driving small buses and or vans

10 years driving experience preferred

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to perform operations using units of American money.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
