Overview
The Department of Sports Studies at Bishops University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Sports Studies in sport, health, and well-being, beginning July 1, 2026. The successful candidate must possess a PhD at the time of appointment, and have or be developing a program related to health and well-being in or through sport, broadly defined, such as:
- Safe Sport and athlete protection (e.g., maltreatment prevention and safeguarding frameworks)
- Mental health, psychosocial wellbeing, and care in sport
- Sport policy, governance, and ethics
- Sport as a context for individual, community, or population health
- Related areas aligned with health and wellbeing in or through sport
Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, along with the potential to contribute to program development. The successful candidate will be able to teach courses in areas such as Safe Sport; athlete welfare, protection, and human rights in sport; mental health and psychosocial wellbeing in sport, and/or other courses aligned with the candidate's expertise and the evolving needs of the program.

Bishops University is a public and secular institution offering undergraduate and graduate courses. The language of instruction is English. Candidates are not expected to have a working knowledge of French when they apply, though a willingness to learn and connect with the broader francophone community over time will bring personal and professional benefits.
Founded in 2009, the Department of Sports Studies is one of the fastest-growing departments at Bishops, with an undergraduate student body of approximately 250 Majors and 30 Minors across three concentrations:
Athletic Development, Business and Society, and Health and Exercise. The successful candidate will contribute to the redevelopment and evolution of our existing Health and Exercise concentration to more closely align with the area outlined above. The Department has a robust research culture housed in the Sports Studies Collaboratory lab space on campus, including an undergraduate honours program and the potential to supervise graduate students.
The Department also has a vital and growing relationship with the Department of Athletics and Recreation, which presents opportunities for experiential learning and research partnerships.
