To assist the Head Football Coach in the operation of the football program.
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITYResponsible for orienting and training others and assigning and reviewing their work.
NATURE AND SCOPEThe Football Strength & Conditioning Coach is responsible for the design, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive strength and conditioning programs that support the health, safety, and performance of Howard University football student-athletes. This position collaborates closely with sport coaches and athletic training staff and ensures compliance with NCAA and institutional policies.
Principal Accountabilities- Promote a positive and supportive training environment for student-athletes.
- Maintain professional certifications and remain current with emerging trends, techniques, and equipment in strength and conditioning.
- Maintain current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.
- Ensure compliance with all NCAA and institutional rules and regulations.
- Develop, implement, and enforce weight room policies and codes of conduct.
- Document and report weight room injuries or incidents to Athletic Training staff and appropriate administrators.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate sport-specific strength and conditioning program.
- Collaborate with football coaches to define and agree upon clear, measurable indicators of success. Communicate regularly with football coaches regarding athlete workload, performance, and conduct.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Prior Strength & Conditioning coaching experience at the collegiate level
- An understanding of the rules and policies of the NCAA
- Ability to work with diverse individuals and promote an inclusive environment
