Overview
At Headfirst, we design fun, intentional, and transformational camp experiences where every camper feels seen, known, and celebrated. Growth is designed into our programs through thoughtfully planned activities and trained staff. The Aquatics Program Leader will oversee, support, and coach a team of Swim Instructors and Certified Lifeguards (site dependent). Headfirst provides pool policies, the instructional swim curriculum, daily camp schedules, and all equipment for a successful day at the pool;
you will organize the program and ensure safety standards are met. Camper ages: 3–12 years old Activities include: blowing bubbles, floating, swim strokes, kicking, breaths to strokes, jumping into the pool, and recreational free swim
Schedule:
7:30 am – 3:45 pm, Monday – Friday Compensation: $19.00 / hour Required Certification:
Lifeguard Certification and First Aid & CPR Certification, or ability to complete these prior to May 30. Certifications are required by the first day of camp; eligibility for a lifeguard certification bonus is available. Headfirst Summer Camps is an Equal Opportunity Employer. - Responsible for the utmost safety of the pool and all participants in the swim program; ensure adherence to safety standards
- Serve as the content expert on the instructional swim curriculum, including levels and adaptations
- Prepare a team of 4 to 12 swim staff to implement pre-written curriculum to small groups of 4–6 campers
- Group campers by level weekly and manage the aquatic staff’s daily schedules to ensure appropriate breaks and time for swim reports
- Ensure timely completion and accuracy of individual camper swim reports by all instructors
- Lead in-season trainings on safety, pool policies, instructional implementation, and swim report writing
- Lead by example and instruct swim classes throughout the day to model proper technique and support instructors
- Oversee recreational free swim blocks and associated swim ability tests for campers
- Monitor and routinely inventory materials
- Execute morning and afternoon carpool as a key team member, welcoming each family by name with positive engagement
- Nurture campers’ physical, social, and emotional safety; support campers and coach counselors in growing instructional skills
- Implement Headfirst safety protocols on supervision, bathrooms, emergency medications, and camper behavior management while in the pool area
- Communicate proactively about curricular, facility, or schedule issues and provide solutions to run a smooth program
- Act as a bridge from camp to parents, communicating campers’ successes and growth through the Site Director or Leadership Team
- Be an active member of the camp team: arrive on time, communicate schedule changes, and support campers and teammates
- Coach counselors with specific feedback and development opportunities
- Represent Headfirst for families and facility partners with enthusiasm, hands-on support, and in uniform
- Lead by example in maintaining camp facilities and guiding your team to do the same
- Approach challenges with a "How Can I Help?" mindset to prioritize camper experience and team success
- Must be at least 20 years old with at least two years of undergraduate study or equivalent professional experience
- Experience:
majors in education and sport management are viewed favorably; at least two years of swim instruction experience with team management experience also viewed favorably - Must be able to swim and remain in a swimming pool for extended periods
- Maintain valid Lifeguard Certification for the entire work season
- Work around young children, including sitting, standing, running, and climbing stairs for the full day
- Work in hot and outdoor environments while actively supervising campers and participating in activities for extended periods
- Lift and carry up to 30 pounds occasionally
- Commit to adhering to a cell-phone-free policy during shifts
