Job Summary
The Assistant Volleyball Coach is a full-time, twelve-month position at Morgan State University – an NCAA Division I institution. The position is responsible for overseeing all phases of the competitive Volleyball team. The Volleyball team competes in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and adheres to NCAA compliance. The assistant coach must be able to support and promote the University’s mission and head coach mission.
- Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach will support and assist the head coach in the development of a sports program that challenges student-athletes to succeed individually and as a team within the structure of the Department of Athletics.
- Primary responsibility includes acting as Recruiting coordinator – performing vetting procedures to analyze prospects in athletic fit, academic fit, and cultural fit.
- Provide student-athletes with appropriate coaching by imparting knowledge of the game and strategies for success.
- Utilize video and other technology to provide instruction. Experience with Data Volley, Volley metrics, and/or other statistical programs.
- Design and implement skill instruction drills for individual and team practices.
- Assist with oversight of training and team-building activities.
- Effectively recruit student-athletes that can be successful within the team system developed by the head coach.
- Demonstrate a commitment to assisting student-athletes achieve academic success.
- Assist the head coach in creating a positive educational environment.
- Work with the Athletic Academic Services department as needed.
- Assist the head coach in managing various administrative tasks related to the operation of the program such as budget management and coordination of team travel.
- Comply with NCAA, MEAC conference, and Morgan State University regulations.
- Education: The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from an accredited college or university.
- Experience: At least two (2) years of experience coaching competitive volleyball sports is required.
- Master’s degree in any discipline preferred
- Division 1 experience
- Strong understanding of all aspects of social media is preferred
- Previous experience coaching on the collegiate level is highly desirable
- Experience with Data Volley / Volley metrics and/or other statistical programs
- Position requires weekend and night work
- Thorough knowledge of applicable NCAA rules and regulations is required
- Demonstrated knowledge of all applicable NCAA, MEAC conference, and institutional rules and regulations is required
- Ability to lead and motivate student-athletes is required
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required
- Must be certified in CPR/First Aid
- Must hold a valid driver’s license
- Must be able to receive Mental Health First Aid certification within one calendar year of hire date and maintain certification thereafter
- Candidates should be able to provide instruction/feedback to student-athletes while standing or squatting
- Candidates should be able to lift, pull and push poles and other equipment used for Volleyball. Must be able to climb boxes, attack, run and other movements associated with coaching a volleyball program.
