Overview
The HUSTLE Head Coach is ultimately responsible for everything that concerns their team. The actions, effort, and appearance of the assistant coach and players should reflect the HUSTLE Head Coach’s desires. The following outlines the responsibilities for HUSTLE Head Coaches of the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy.
Responsibilities- Spring Programming:
February 9, 2026 - May 25, 2026 - Typical Programming
Hours:
Monday - Thursday 5-8 PM, potential game times 9 AM - 3 PM - Summer Programming:
May 26, 2026 - August 17, 2026 - Typical Programming
Hours:
Monday - Thursday 5-8 PM, Saturday or Sunday 9 AM - 3 PM - Fall Programming:
September 1, 2026 - December 20, 2026 - Typical Programming
Hours:
Monday - Thursday 5-8 PM, potential game times 9 AM - 3 PM - Be responsible for the quality of the player’s work habits, with help from other coaches
- Keep notes of thoughts, ideas, and positives or negatives that need to be addressed with individuals or the entire team
- Create detailed practice plans that emphasize HUSTLE, energy, and maximize on-field reps
- Be knowledgeable of The Academy’s trauma-informed approach and the Academy’s Core Values
- Be able to instruct players at each respective position on the field; report any injuries
- Manage communication to parents and receive confirmation of attendance for games and practices from HUSTLE parents/players
- Be responsible for the appearance of players (during team time, uniforms, clothing, etc.)
- Present a unified front and cultivate the credibility of fellow Coaches
- Other duties as assigned

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Required:
High school diploma and pursuing a college degree with 2+ years of baseball/softball coaching experience - Preferred: 1+ years of relevant youth development experience

Ability to lead a group of children by giving instructions in field settings - Required:
Demonstrate the ability to prepare and organize for every HUSTLE activity day - Required:
Deep knowledge and experience of baseball/softball rules - Required:
Demonstrated experience and emotional commitment to working with youth and families in a low-income, urban community - Required:
Commitment to achieving the articulated objectives of the Academy for Scholar Athletes, staff, and the community at-large - Required:

- The work environment is typical of a baseball/softball coach role. The Head Coach will be exposed to indoor/outdoor conditions and varying weather. Must perform in a high-activity sports venue and may stand, run, jump, and navigate stairs for extended periods.
The projected wage rate for this position is $21.00 - $28.00 per hour. Actual pay is based on qualifications, skills, experience, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements.
