Overview

Pregnant And Parenting ILP Program Sasha Bruce Youthwork seeks motivated and dynamic team members to join us at Pregnant and Parenting ILP – an independent living residential program for pregnant and parenting young adults. The program participants are young moms between the ages of 18-21 and their children. The program provides supportive services including on site case management, counseling, and life skills education through individual and group sessions.

The ILP has the capacity to serve 6 mothers and their children.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Youth Engagement Specialist (YES) is responsible for coordination of daily activities within the program. The YES creates a positive, stable and welcoming environment for young families. The YES is responsible for monitoring the safety of the program residents, engaging in positive interactions with program participants and other staff, and providing clinical and crisis intervention as needed.

This position is Saturday and Sunday 3pm – 11pm.

Responsibilities
  • Provides on-site supervision, while maintaining professional boundaries, and crisis intervention and counseling services to youth in residence.
  • With direction from the Program Manager, helps plan for, directs, and/or provides support for recreational, educational, and therapeutic activities that are in alignment with individual client goals.
  • Answers and records all phone calls and visitors, maintains supervision of the program, and enforces program rules while ensuring the safety of residents.
  • Works collaboratively with other SBY staff, programs, families, and agencies, to help youth develop or follow-through on individual service plan goals.
  • Engages program participants in a variety of activities, supporting them in achieving daily goals, and engaging them in productive dialogue, building life skills, and problem solving.
  • Facilitates life skills groups on topics of interest to teens relative to positive social and emotional development.
  • Makes regular apartment inspections and the area immediately outside.
  • Maintains necessary documentation, including but not limited to legible, comprehensive and accurate reports of program activities in the program log. All documentation must be submitted within 24-48 hours.
  • Oversees the safety and cleanliness of the program site including coordinating and managing residents’ daily chores. At times, perform light janitorial duties such as sweep, mop, taking-out trash. Advise Program Manager of building maintenance needs.
  • Carries out emergency fire evacuation and emergency procedures in case of an illness or accident.
  • Assists with shift-coverage when schedule gaps occur due to staff shortage.
  • Attend scheduled family activities and field trips.
  • Participates in regular supervision and staff meetings.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field such as Social Work, Psychology or Human Services.

Required:

High School Diploma or GED with 2 to 3 years’ relevant experience in Human Services or related field (preferably working with adolescents/young adults);

  • Must learn and apply positive behavior modification techniques, model effective de-escalation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong spoken and written English language skills, including report writing.
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License, pass required DC clearances (and other states as applicable).
  • Experience working with youth, teens, and families dealing with trauma, crisis, and community stress.
  • Great work ethic, excellent time management, efficiency, problem solving, and customer service skills.
  • Possess good organizational skills, the ability to multitask, maintain confidentiality, and be detail oriented.
  • All candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation; pass the required clearances; and provide any additional information regarding previous records, if necessary.
