Position: Maintenance Mechanic (Seasonal)

Overview

These positions are located in National Mall and Memorial Parks and will perform complex installation, maintenance and repair of equipment and historic buildings. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is March to December but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty:
March.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a Maintenance Mechanic performing difficult installation, maintenance and repair of equipment and historic buildings.
  • Perform and oversee a variety of routine preventative maintenance inspections for carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical work.
  • Perform repairs related to carpentry, plumbing and painting, with the ability to perform minor electrical repairs such as changing light bulbs.
  • Install, modify, and repair new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler system, and showers, and lay out of such things as angles, arcs, and circles.
  • Install, overhaul, repair, clean, test, troubleshoot, calibrate, upgrade and modify electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment, circuits and components related to historic buildings.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronic Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • You will be considered as emergency/essential personnel.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old or at least 16 years old with qualifying education/work programs as specified.
Qualifications
  • Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT).
  • Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, and repair, etc.
  • Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
  • Use of measuring instruments.
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, specifications (other than blueprints).
  • Knowledge of materials.

Volunteer Experience
:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs and other organizations. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
