Overview
Incumbent serves as Locksmith for Saint Elizabeths Hospital. Works independently performing a wide variety of locksmith duties throughout the facility, including modifying, reworking and developing complex locking devices to accomplish special security objectives of the Hospital. Installs, replaces, repairs, and services a wide range of locking devices or mechanisms including combination or key locks; narcotic lockers; cabinet and desk locks; safes;
vaults locked grills and panels; padlocks; electronic door locks and other locking devices. Performs carpentry work required to install and repair doors and closers. Modifies/develops locking devices to improve or provide new structural or functional capabilities.
Thorough knowledge of the full range of locking devices and their parts.
Licensures, Certifications And Other RequirementsNone
EducationMust possess a high school diploma or a certificate of equivalency (GED)
Work ExperienceExpert in installing, replacing, repairing and modifying a wide range of locking devices. Experience developing locking devices that improve or provide functional capabilities to accomplish special security objectives.
Work EnvironmentWork is performed in a controlled environment and involves some exposure to moderate risk of accidents and requires following basic safety precautions.

Residency RequirementA person applying for a position in the Career Service, Educational Service, Management Supervisory Service, a line attorney position in the Legal Service (series 905), or an attorney position in the Excepted Service (series 905) who is a bona fide District resident AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION for the position may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants unless the person declines the preference points.
Applicants claiming “Residency Preference” will be required to maintain residency in the District of Columbia for a minimum of seven (7) years. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of employment.
