SummaryThese positions are located in National Mall and Memorial Parks and will perform complex installation, maintenance and repair of equipment and historic buildings.
Seasonal DurationThe typical seasonal entry‑on‑duty period is March to September, but can vary during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.
Anticipated Entry on Duty:
March
- Serve as a Maintenance Mechanic performing the most difficult installation, maintenance and repair of equipment and historic buildings.
- Perform and oversee a variety of routine preventative maintenance inspections for carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical work.
- Perform repairs related to carpentry, plumbing and painting, with the ability to perform minor electrical repairs such as changing light bulbs.
- Installs, modifies, and repairs new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler system, and showers, and lay out of such things as angles, arcs, and circles.
- Install, overhaul, repair, clean, test, troubleshoot, calibrate, upgrade and modify electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment, circuits and components related to historic buildings.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- Driver’s license and valid motor vehicle operator’s license and driving record required; submission of all certified driving records from all States.
- Must wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards; a uniform allowance will be provided.
- May be required to work on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
- Will be considered as emergency/essential personnel.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old or at least 16 years old with: (a) graduated from high school or equivalent; (b) completed a formal vocational training program; (c) received a statement from school authorities indicating preference for employment; or (d) be currently enrolled in a secondary school and work only during school vacation periods or part‑time under a formal student employment program.
- Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT).
- Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, and repair.
- Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
- Use of measuring instruments.
- Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
- Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (other than blueprints).
- Knowledge of materials.
