AboutThis Role
This position is for a Facilities HVAC technician who works under minimal supervision. You will lead lower‑level staff in examining facilities and evaluating elements, develop procedures, repair, maintenance, inspections and work instructions for operation of equipment, and may serve as a resource on varied tasks.
- Site location:
Department of Energy, Washington, DC
- Work with HVAC Field Technicians in the installation and repair of environmental control systems, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, control systems, pipe fitting, and structural layouts.
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance, inspections, site surveys, and service requests including repairs, replacement, and modifications of equipment or systems as needed.
- Establish & maintain a positive relationship with customers, vendors, and co‑workers through effective oral and written communication skills.
- Inspect air‑conditioning units to ensure efficient operation; diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions; install, replace, or repair equipment; calibrate thermostatic controls.
- Install new heating, ventilation, and air‑conditioning systems and repair low‑/high‑pressure liquid lines.
- Adjust and maintain internal electrical and electronic control systems, clean coils, blowers, check motors, and belt tensions; assemble and install metal ductwork.
- Maintain chilled and hot water supply systems and assist in planning and designing new installations.
- Communicate technical information to both technical and non‑technical people.
- Respond promptly to customer service calls (emergency, on‑site, and remote).
- Display teamwork and dedication, including on‑call, overtime, and weekend work as required; maintain flexibility.
- Work closely with NORESCO’s Measurement and Verification (M&V) group to ensure savings guarantees are met.
- Track changes to customer facilities that may affect performance; develop non‑routine adjustments.
- Analyze energy trend data to detect system problems; diagnose and repair electric and electronic control system malfunctions; test and write modifications using installed control‑system software.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with NORESCO and customers’ Environmental, Health, and Safety policies.
- Coordinate with supervisors, field technicians, and customers to understand job requirements, examine building layouts, equipment, and review contract requirements.
- Serve as direct customer contact; be responsible for servicing products and equipment at assigned projects, ensuring customer satisfaction by analyzing and repairing equipment and systems.
