Summary
This position is with the National Mall and Memorial Parks located in Washington, D.C. Open to the first 60 applicants or until 01/27/2026 whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 EST on the closing day will receive consideration.
Duties- Appropriately apply the National Electric Code (NEC) to projects in order to select the correct materials and methods for an installation or repair.
- Assist in the park's annual preventive maintenance schedule and annual operating programs for the electric shop.
- Provide technical advice, guidance, and support in the oversight of existing and proposed park facility buildings and utilities.
- Plan and lay out electrical systems from drawings and interface new work with existing systems.
- Identify and correct job safety and health hazards.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- Required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- Operate a government or private motor vehicle as part of official duties; valid driver's license required.
- Wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards; uniform allowance provided.
- Work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work as required.
- Travel overnight up to 2 nights per month; obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
- May be considered emergency personnel.
- Capable of lifting at least 50 pounds.
This position includes a 1-year probationary period after which continued employment will be evaluated based on performance and fit with agency objectives.
Qualifications- Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have graduated from high school or be awarded an equivalent certificate; or have completed a formal vocational training program; or have a statement from school authorities endorsing employment over continued education; or be currently enrolled in a secondary school and work only during vacation or part-time under a formal student employment program.
- May be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
- Must possess and maintain a current valid State or District of Columbia Driver's license; proof required at application.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability in electrical work without more than normal supervision, use and maintenance of hand tools, electrical drawings, electrical equipment, technical practices, theory, troubleshooting; provide detailed experience in resume.
Experience includes paid and unpaid work, such as National Service programs and community, social, or volunteer organizations. Volunteer work may earn credit for qualifying experience.
Physical DemandsThis position requires performing electrical work from ladders, scaffolds, platforms, etc. Duties include sitting, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, crawling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and occasional heavier loads. Exposure to electrical shock, arc hazard, and other hazards may occur.
Working ConditionsWork is both indoors and outdoors, subject to extreme weather conditions and varying elevations. Exposure to dust, fumes, gases, smoke, vapors, noise, vibration, cuts, abrasions, hazardous materials, and wildlife may occur. Protective clothing and equipment is required.
