Building Maintenance Technician II - (250002PN)

This position will cover the 7am - 3:30pm shift and is a level II role. It encompasses all duties of a BMT I position and completes tasks of a more complex level with minimal supervision. This level II position will perform minor to complex maintenance and service to support ongoing facility operations for the Facilities Department, initiated through work requests or dispatched by the control room, call center, or a member of management in accordance with Hospital standards.

Performs maintenance, service, and repairs in general building systems and structures, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, plastering, tank changing and/or machine servicing. Responds to low-level to complex requests, prioritizes work, and assists with routine-to-complex requests as needed. Ensures smooth transition of responsibilities to the next shift. Responds to hospital emergencies such as leaks, fire alarms, odors, snow removal, etc. This position is subject to rotating shifts and requires a valid driver s license and ability to operate hospital vehicles.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to perform essential functions. The employee must regularly stand, walk, use hands, and may lift up to 50 pounds.

• Take the initiative to identify and report deficiencies in the physical plant of the hospital by submitting work orders through the work order system.
• Diagnose and resolve trouble tickets/work orders Thoroughly until completed.
• Routinely follow up with manager to communicate or request assistance to complete work orders when necessary.
• Follow up with the requester after completion of a work order to ensure the problem has been corrected.
• Routinely utilize all safety measures related to work orders and specific tasks.
• Respond to all emergencies and coordinate with Control Room/On-Call Manager as needed; assist with general maintenance and repairs.

Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Basic level mechanical/plumbing and electrical training required; demonstrates ability to use PC; general knowledge of internet. 1 or more years of related and progressive experience; 1 year of general maintenance, carpentry, mechanical/plumbing and electrical experience; familiarity with automated work order systems; ability to use internet; willingness to learn new software related to the field; working knowledge of applicable EPA & OSHA standards related to the position.

Math ability level: basic calculations; human relations skills; basic computer skills; familiarity with intranet and some Microsoft Office suites (Word, Excel); customer service skills, calculator, copy machine.

• Assists with minor repairs to plumbing fixtures, lighting, doors, and general maintenance; may perform landscaping and assembly tasks; follows infection control guidelines.
• Installs and maintains infection control devices; mounts and performs minor electrical services; repairs or replaces locks and hardware; conducts routine cleaning and inspection of facilities.
• Performs preventive and corrective maintenance; responds to emergencies, assists with disaster and safety procedures; reports safety hazards to Control Room or On-Call Manager as needed.
• Track materials used and maintain adequate supply levels; perform rounds and create work orders for deficiencies.
• Performs maintenance on utilities and essential systems; assists with projects and general hospital maintenance tasks.
