Responsibilities
  • Partners with the Guest Services team to enhance security and create a patient- and family-centered culture.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations at hospital entrances by maintaining a safe environment and utilizing the weapons detection systems.
  • Provide superior customer service and be trained in de-escalation techniques and conflict management.
  • Work closely with internal security patrols of JHMI buildings to protect against illegal activities, theft, fire, hazardous conditions, infringements, etc., when/where necessary.
  • Ensure no one enters the hospital with any weapons or other unpermitted objects that could cause a safety issue within the facility.
Qualifications
  • Possession of DC Security Officer License or must file for license within the first 2 weeks of employment; must obtain officer’s license within the first 45 days of employment.
  • Candidate must be 21 years of age or older to apply and test for the Security Police Officer License.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license, and the ability to obtain and maintain any required endorsements or certifications.
  • Candidates must have no more than 5 points on their MVR.
  • Candidates must have no more than 8 points from driving-related infractions/violations/convictions, or no more than 15 or more points resulting from any non-valid license status on Samba risk assessment.
  • Notes: checks are completed separately; failure to meet either requirement results in disqualification. Samba Safety evaluates driving risk. Employees in driving-privilege roles are subject to ongoing monitoring.
  • Successful completion of post-hire entry training (e.g., CPR, Stop the Bleed, Narcan, de-escalation). Must maintain certification requirements.
  • Certification in healthcare security (e.g., CHPA, CHSO) or other relevant security certifications is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of one year of security experience is highly preferred.
  • Successful completion of basic security officer training and customer service training within the first 90 days of hire.
  • Previous hospital security experience is a plus.
  • May have to work other shifts as necessary. 30-day notice prior to any shift change.

Salary Range:
Minimum /hour – Maximum /hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls.
