Wheelhouse, Assistant General Manager
Wheelhouse is an American Bistro and neighborhood gathering place located on Connecticut Avenue in Northwest Washington, DC. The restaurant is scheduled to open in Spring of 2026 and is seeking a strong AGM to help lead the launch of the concept.
To be successful in this role, you will need management skills and experience in both front and back of the house. You will support the GM and sometimes act in their place in oversight of the dining room, communication with customers and kitchen staff. You will assist the GM in hiring and staffing decisions, scheduling ordering and adherence with regulations.
We expect you to lead by example and uplift our staff during busy moments in our fast-paced environment. Ultimately, you will ensure our restaurant runs smoothly and customers have pleasant dining experiences.
Responsibilities- Work in conjunction with the General Manager to ensure quality restaurant operations
- Assist in coordinating the Front of the House and Back of the House staff
- Deliver superior service and maximize customer satisfaction
- Respond efficiently and accurately to customer complaints
- Communicate with employees about their job performance, expectations and training
- Regularly review product quality and research new vendors
- Organize and supervise shifts
- Ensure staff operate within company policies
- Ensure compliance with sanitation and safety regulations
- Manage restaurant’s good image and suggest ways to improve it
- Train new and current employees on proper customer service practices
- Implement policies and protocols that will maintain future restaurant operations
- Proven work experience as a Restaurant Manager, Assistant General Manager or similar role
- Proven customer service experience as a manager
- Extensive food and beverage (F&B) knowledge, with ability to remember and recall ingredients and dishes to inform customers and wait staff
- Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Internet tools, etc.
- Familiarity with restaurant management software, like Toast, Paycom, Hot Schedules, Triple Seat, and RESY/Open Table
- Strong leadership, motivational and people skills
- Understanding of financial analysis, tracking and planning
- Degree in Business Administration; hospitality management or culinary schooling is a plus
