Research Assistant, Market Shaping Accelerator

The Market Shaping Accelerator is a partnership between Dartmouth, the University of Chicago, and CGD. It aims to catalyze the development of Advance Market Commitments and other market‑shaping mechanisms to incentivize innovations addressing climate change, pandemic threats, and global health issues.

• 40% Economic appraisal and quantitative modeling (cost-benefit analysis) of market‑shaping proposals, including microeconomic modeling, market sizing, benefit estimation, and data analysis in Stata, R, and/or Python.
• 25% Supporting analysis of policy challenges related to climate change, global health, and pandemic preparedness – understanding market dynamics and sector structures.
• 25% Identifying promising problems for market‑shaping instruments through desk research.
• 10% Communication and coordination with relevant stakeholders.

• Bachelor’s degree in Economics or a related field.
• Strong quantitative skills and experience with empirical research methods or microeconomic modeling.
• Programming experience in at least one language (Stata, R, Python, or MATLAB).
• Excellent analytical and critical‑thinking skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to stay organized on multiple projects simultaneously.

• Advanced modeling experience and knowledge of multiple programming languages.
• Curiosity and interest in climate change, pandemic preparedness, and global health.
• Domestic (and possible international) travel as required.

$54,340 – $58,000. Pay commensurate with education, skillset, and experience.

The organization is working hybrid with all staff required to be in the office at least three days per week. CGD is registered to employ staff living in DC, Maryland, or Virginia.
