Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), the world’s leading science and technology policy think tank, is seeking a senior analyst to shape and conduct ITIF’s research and policy agenda on industrial competitiveness and innovation. ITIF is seeking a candidate with a deep understanding of the “real economy”—how industries operate, how technologies are developed and diffused, and how public policy affects competitiveness, productivity, and innovation.

Candidates should have a strong grasp of innovation systems, industry dynamics, business strategy, and industrial policy. The ideal candidate will be comfortable challenging conventional wisdom, whether from free‑market or anti‑business orthodoxy. They should be able to rigorously critique flawed analysis and contribute to high‑quality, accessible, and persuasive writing.

The role also involves representing ITIF’s ideas in public debates and policy discussions, requiring both intellectual rigor and an ability to communicate effectively with policymakers, stakeholders, and the media. Candidates should possess a strong working knowledge of economics—including international economics—to effectively engage in policy debates. Familiarity with key economic and innovation‑related data sources (e.g., NSF, BEA, BLS, Census) is essential. Breadth of expertise across areas such as international trade, R&D policy, industrial organization, labor market economics, and regulatory economics is a plus.

Because the position often involves working across multiple policy domains, intellectual curiosity and a willingness to learn new areas quickly are critical. This role continues and expands ITIF’s work on industrial competitiveness and innovation, a portfolio developed by outgoing ITIF president Robert

D. Atkinson. The position will report to incoming president Daniel Castro.

Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in policy analysis, research, or related work
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, compelling, and accessible policy writing
  • Experience engaging in public debates and policy advocacy
