Overview
Regional Medical Director - Urgent Vet / American Veterinary Group (AVG) – Multi-site leadership role overseeing a portfolio of hospitals in the Northeast and Southeast regions. This is a full-time, salaried position with weekly travel across the East Coast to lead and mentor veterinary teams and drive high standards of patient care.
Responsibilities- Oversee a portfolio of 40-50 animal hospitals, acting as a key partner and resource for veterinary teams.
- Elevate patient care by monitoring doctor interactions and medicine protocols to ensure high standards of care.
- Mentor and coach staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Assist in resolving staff and client conflicts, promoting effective communication and problem-solving.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to support staff and optimize business operations.
- Maintain operational and medical execution aligned with company policies and procedures, including tracking package utilization, responding to client/staff concerns, monitoring discounts, and ensuring compliance.
- Preserve transaction rates and pet counts, contributing to regional success.
- Provide guidance and support to new graduate veterinarians to help them thrive.
- Practice alongside DVMs, assist with cases, review cases on request, monitor hospital flow, and ensure client satisfaction.
- Fill urgent needs shifts, monitor negative case outcomes, and review for quality assurance.
- Analyze weekly trends and explain standard KPIs (revenue, visits, revenue per day/doctor day, etc.).
- Collaborate with Regional Directors and VP of Medicine to address issues and drive improvements.
- Monitor DEA logbooks for accuracy; review current projects and provide updates.
- Encourage healthy communication among DVMs and guide protocol development.
- Perform quarterly inspections of practices within the region and host regional DVM events.
- DVM/VMD from an AVMA-accredited college (or successful completion of ECFVG or PAVE).
- Active veterinary license in the states where hospitals are overseen; valid DEA license in good standing or ability to obtain.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong leadership and delegation abilities.
- Ability to analyze complex information and make decisions respectful of stakeholders.
- Experience leading multi-site teams and adapting to a fast-paced environment.
- 5+ years of clinical practice experience; leadership experience preferred.
- Ability for a high level of travel and extended time away from home (company-paid).
- Combination of veterinary industry, financial acumen, and business knowledge, or capacity to learn.
This is a field-based role requiring weekly travel throughout the East Coast. Candidates should reside near a major airport in one of the following metro areas or adjacent regions:
Charlotte, Raleigh, Atlanta, Washington DC, Greenville, Philadelphia, New York City, Boston, Chicago, Tampa, Orlando, or Miami.
