The Washington Conservation Corps (WCC) is seeking Crew Supervisors! This role offers an exciting chance to work outdoors across Washington while leading young adults and military veterans in environmental restoration. Crew supervisors also gain valuable certifications like Hazwoper, Pesticide Applicator, and Wilderness First Responder while working with our network of organizational partners, including local counties and cities, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Washington Department of Natural Resources, Washington State Parks, Yakima Nation, Bureau of Land Management, and more.

Duties

The Shorelands and Environmental Assistance (SEA) program helps communities manage shorelands and wetlands. Our primary focus is on state and local responsibilities for administering Washington state and federally-delegated laws. Our mission is to work in partnership with communities to support healthy watersheds and promote statewide environmental interests.

The program's Washington Conservation Corps (WCC) section is looking to fill Washington Conservation Corps (WCC) Crew Supervisor 1 positions located across the State of Washington. This is a project position funded until September 30, 2025, with potential for extension after the next grant cycle.

This posting will be used to fill vacancies in our Central / Eastern region, including counties such as Chelan, Kittitas, Spokane, Walla Walla, Grant, and Yakima. It is open continuous, and applying enters your name into a candidate pool. Vacancies may or may not be available at application time. Positions may open at any time; applying early is advantageous. Applications expire every 90 days; re-application is necessary to remain in consideration. Do not include salary history; wage depends on qualifications or promotion rules.

This role supervises a crew performing natural resource assignments, including habitat enhancement, recreational projects, and combined efforts depending on the season. Supervisors may also lead disaster response deployments.

Responsibilities include
  • Reviewing, planning, and assigning work tasks.
  • Monitoring project progress and resource use.
  • Evaluating and providing feedback to crew members.
  • Hiring and terminating crew members.
  • Completing paperwork such as timesheets, safety reports, and evaluations.
  • Ensuring safety and maintenance of equipment.
  • Driving and maintaining vehicles.
  • Operating tools and working in challenging conditions, including rough terrain and long hours.
Working Conditions
  • Overnight travel, extended hours, and work in inclement weather and rugged terrain.
  • Potential deployment to disaster areas for up to 30 days.
Qualifications

Required:

An Associate's degree in a related field and one year of relevant experience, or completion of a two-year vocational program plus experience, or three years of equivalent experience. Military experience can substitute for field experience.

Desired:
Supervisory experience, certifications like Wilderness First Aid, Pesticide License, Wildland Firefighter Red Card, ICS 300, NIMS 700.
