Overview
Operating Room Registered Nurse - 11:00a - 9:30p w/Call. Up to $25,000 Sign-On Bonus. Provides patient care in a surgical setting in accordance with scope and standards of practice, policies, values, and mission of the organization. Monitors and manages the patient and operative environment during surgery to maintain a safe environment, optimize outcomes and maximize resources.

- Consults and coordinates with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate intraoperative patient care plans.
- Serves as the communication liaison to patients, families, and operating team members.
- Prepares the operating room for the patient and surgical procedure; assembles equipment, supplies, and implants; ensures equipment is functional and supplies are available.
- Delivers perioperative patient- and family-centered care using the nursing process, providing developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive, evidence-based care.
- Uses outcome data at the patient level to inform care decisions.
- Participates in quality improvement activities and uses quality measures to understand unit performance.
- Provides direct guidance and oversight of orientees in patient care and clinical activities, ensuring adherence to documentation standards, standards of care, and policies and procedures.
- Participates in unit governance initiatives to improve patient care and throughput as determined by leadership.
- Navigates and documents in the EMR to support patient care; works within scope of practice and delegates according to the Nurse Practice Act.
- Demonstrates knowledge of risk and safety issues and uses measures to ensure optimal outcomes.
- Participates in Universal Protocol and timeout processes; conducts post-procedure pause; understands use of positioning devices and follows policy to protect patients from injury.
- Adheres to instrument count procedures and initiates corrective actions if counts are incorrect; verifies medications and expiration dates in collaboration with the team.
- Communicates observations or concerns related to unsafe situations; demonstrates proactive problem-solving and critical thinking in patient care and unit operations.
- Promotes safety for patients, families, visitors, and staff; maintains attention to detail and follows standardized handoff processes.
- Assists the surgical team with emergency situations and supports downtime management and downtime utilization.
- Minimum Education
:
Associate’s Degree from an approved nursing program (Required); BSN (Preferred). - Minimum Work Experience
: 2 years operating room experience required; ideally with at least two of the following specialties:
Neurosurgery, Ortho/Ortho-spine, General Surgery, Colorectal, ENT, Davinci Robotic, Kidney transplant. Pediatric OR experience (Preferred). - Required Skills/Knowledge
:
Complete hospital and nursing orientation; excel in organization; apply best practices based on benchmarks and literature; maintain proficiency in multiple services (e.g., General Surgery, Colorectal, Kidney Transplant, ENT, Ortho/Ortho-spine, Neurosurgery, Cardiac Surgery, Urology/Davinci, Plastic, Oral Maxillofacial, GI); basic computer skills; adaptability; collaboration; communication; diversity and inclusion awareness; decision making; relationship management; workload management. - Required Licenses and Certifications
:
Registered Nurse license in the District of Columbia (or as location dictates: DC/MD/VA);
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS); CNOR (Preferred).
