Registered Nurse II Part Time 7
East Medical Care Unit - $9000 sign on bonus. 7 East is a 50-bed pediatric medical care unit serving patients from newborns through teens. All nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, Children’s National Policies and Procedures, and applicable laws and regulations. The Professional Model of Care requires registered professional nurses to be responsible and accountable for their own practice. Children’s National supports the development of RN relationships within the community related to health and well-being.
ResponsibilitiesThe description below reflects the functional areas commonly expected for this role, aligned to organizational standards:
- Transformational Leadership: contribute to Magnet re-designation, update professional profile, participate in councils/committees/task forces/community outreach; demonstrate critical thinking during patient care; communicate to develop care plans and advocate for patient needs; escalate issues using chain of command; model teamwork with ancillary staff; support change and management decisions; demonstrate empathy and service to others.
- Structural Empowerment: independently maintain regulatory requirements (e.g., license, BLS); plan mandatory education and professional activities; review peers; participate in departmental goals while adhering to safety standards; collaborate with the healthcare team and escalate as needed.
- Exemplary Professional Practice: utilize patient/family assessments to complete data bases and care plans; apply clinical skills for complex patients; prioritize and organize care for rapidly changing needs; document to high standards; educate patients and families throughout hospital or outpatient stays and prior to discharge; demonstrate strong organizational skills and patient-centered care.
- Safety: speak up about unsafe behavior; validate information for decisions and documentation; pause to resolve uncertainty; communicate clearly; promote safety for patients, families, visitors and staff; practice Stop, Think, Act, and Review to self-check performance.
- Organizational Accountabilities & Continuous Improvement: identify quality improvement opportunities; pursue self-learning; base care on evidence; uphold core organizational values; protect confidentiality; participate in innovations and improvements; maintain diversity and integrity.
Minimum Education
BSN from an approved school of nursing (preferred).
Minimum Work Experience
1 year RN experience (required).
Required Skills/Knowledge
Complete hospital and nursing orientation at Children’s National; maintain current knowledge in specialty area.
Required Licenses and Certifications
Registered Nurse in the District of Columbia (or license in MD/VA depending on location); CPR certification (required).
