Nurse Practitioner – Children’s National Pediatricians & Associates
The Nurse Practitioner works independently with collaborative supervision, using intuitive skills to solve complex clinical situations. The NP is credentialed to act in an expanded nursing role and is responsible for the assessment and management of patients, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and the implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive plan of care. All activities are conducted within the guidelines of protocols agreed upon by the Medical Director and under medical supervision.
WorkHours
Weekday hours vary from 8 AM to 6 PM, depending on the day. April–July 2025 will involve extended late hours. One Saturday per month (4‑hour morning shift) is also required.
Qualifications- Minimum Education
: MSN from an approved Nurse Practitioner program (Required) - Minimum Work Experience
: 0 years clinical experience with two years experience in the care of children (Required); 2 years clinical experience with two years child‑care experience (Preferred) - Licenses and Certifications
:- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in the state(s) of practice (Required)
- Meet credentialing requirements of Children’s National Medical staff office (Required)
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS) (Required)
- Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP) (Required) or Family Nurse Practitioner-Board Certified (FNP-BC) (Required)
- Assess patient status: complete history, examination, developmental assessment; order appropriate tests and imaging.
- Gather and maintain patient records, interpreting lab, MRI, EEG and abnormal findings to plan interventions.
- Collaborate with health‑care team members, clinics, and community agencies to address patient care needs.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans based on protocols and patient/family needs.
- Perform minor procedures (e.g., ear irrigation, suture removal) as indicated.
- Prescribe medication according to guidelines.
- Provide clinical expertise to patients, families, and team members.
- Serve as a role model for complex patient care issues.
- Direct patient management in emergency situations.
- Participate in professional organizations and committees.
- Join on‑call rotation as needed.
- Act as a consultant in clinical expertise to other health‑care professionals and the community.
- Document and communicate patient status using written and verbal means.
- Manage conflict constructively.
- Communicate needed system changes and staff development needs effectively.
- Participate in development of standards of care.
- Provide input and feedback to evaluate quality of care.
- Prioritize workload to meet short‑ and long‑term goals.
- Consult with other providers on patient‑care policies.
- Interpret policies in a clear, unbiased manner to staff and families.
- Monitor and document the effectiveness of patient‑care interventions.
- Participate in QA monitoring with the department or practice.
- Propose and participate in development of programs to improve delivery of care.
- Assess learning needs of patients and families.
- Implement teaching strategies using appropriate tools, resources, and research.
- Evaluate understanding after teaching.
- Communicate patient and family learning needs and responses to teaching.
- Develop educational materials in the NP’s area of expertise.
- Disseminate information from other professionals’ research in the specialization area.
- Participate in development of the NP role and practice within the organization.
- Maintain NP certification and attend continuing education conferences.
- Hold membership in specialty organizations.
- Develop and present educational programs for hospital and community health‑care professionals.
- Identify learning needs of staff and develop in‑services or projects accordingly.
- Meet with clinical educators, services directors, and departmental chairs to assess staff needs.
