Position Summary

The Washington Nationals are seeking a dynamic and collaborative athletic trainer to drive procedures in player health management, evaluation, rehabilitation, and injury prevention. This role will lead a team of two certified athletic trainers to coordinate day-to-day medical care at the Major League level, while also setting the course for player-care protocols throughout the organization. This role will collaborate with multiple departments (ML coaching staff, front office, team physicians, strength & conditioning, nutrition) to optimize player health, performance, and recovery.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide care and management of injuries and illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation protocols.
  • Maintain proper medical records in accordance with best practices and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with team physicians and sports science department to determine return-to-play protocols.
  • Manage and support the Major League Athletic Trainers
  • Coordinate with the Minor League Medical Coordinator to establish best practices throughout the organization.
  • Help create alignment with the minor league medical department, with the potential to create an onboarding and education process for future athletic trainers in the Nationals system.
  • Support and guidance as needed with player acquisitions.
Qualifications
  • Detail-oriented with a strong ability to work across departments.
  • Desire to learn, grow, and develop personally and professionally in alignment with organizational values and philosophies.
  • National Athletic Trainer’s Association-Board of Certification in good standing
  • Significant experience working as a baseball athletic trainer.
  • State Licensure in good standing
  • CPR/AED certification
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Compensation

The projected annual salary range for this contracted position is $195,000 to $215,000 per year. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s: qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organizational requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.
