The George Washington University Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) provides comprehensive care for patients experiencing acute medical conditions, trauma, and critical illnesses. As a Level I Trauma Center, the ED is equipped to handle the most complex emergency cases, with highly specialized teams available 24/7.
- The Emergency Department is a 62-bed unit, including resuscitation rooms, fast-track areas, and specialized spaces for trauma, cardiac emergencies, and stroke.
- Our ED is supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment facilities, with rapid access to radiology, laboratory, and surgical services.
- The ED is staffed by board-certified emergency physicians, nurse practitioners, and a highly skilled team of emergency-trained nurses.
Our focus is on delivering immediate, patient-centered care while maintaining close collaboration with other specialties to ensure seamless patient transitions and long-term outcomes.
Job SummaryAs a Registered Nurse in our Level I Trauma Center’s Emergency Department, you will provide critical care to patients with a variety of urgent and life-threatening medical conditions. The ED is known for its fast-paced environment and commitment to excellence in patient care, teaching, and research. You will work alongside a dedicated team of medical professionals to deliver high-quality care and support to patients and their families during critical times.
Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in a dynamic, challenging emergency department setting.
- Perform assessments, develop treatment plans, and implement care for patients across a wide range of conditions.
- Administer medications, perform procedures, and monitor patient responses to treatments.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes.
- Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, and preventive care.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives and research opportunities.
- BSN or currently enrolled.
- DC RN License, or eligibility
- At least 2 years of ED RN experience
- Certification in BLS, ACLS, and PALS required.
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification within 1 year of hire
- Exceptional clinical skills and judgment.
- Strong ability to work under pressure and react effectively in emergency situations.
