Job Description & How to Apply Below

Overview

We’re looking for a lively and systems-minded Operations Director to support the Chief of Staff in smoothly managing the organization. In this role, you’ll be responsible for overseeing recruitment, onboarding, social & team bonding time, and occasional logistical needs — with opportunities to participate on the frontline of the student movement against authoritarianism. The ideal candidate sees themselves as a fun party-planner, while also identifying roadblocks to progress and wellbeing in a team and bringing solutions to the table.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with the Chief of Staff to improve the organization’s team expectations, standard operating procedures, and recruitment guidelines — and ensure the team is meeting them
  • Plan social outings & fun activities for the team to connect outside of movement-building
  • Intentionally grow team culture, spirit, and traditions so we can organize with love at the center
  • Lead team recruitment efforts, including posting role openings to job boards (including our website, Handshake, and nonprofit/movement boards), and actively searching for capable student organizers
  • Build a diverse team by managing the candidate application, interview & selection process
  • Draft role descriptions, outlining expectations, qualifications, and responsibility buckets
  • Identify opportunities for improvement across team structures, work loads, management styles, and role responsibilities to ensure our team is meaningfully organizing, while prioritizing health, wellbeing, balance, and harmony
  • Work with other leaders to plan team retreats to celebrate achievements, plan campaigns, outline support needs, and build trust
  • Identify training, learning, and professional development opportunities for our team and consult with leadership to implement them
  • Occasional logistical needs, such as helping to search for, and book travel, lodging, venues, food, etc. for events, trainings, convenings, retreats, or team activities
Requirements Include
  • Capacity to work 10-15 hours/week on the above
  • Commitment to centering youth as we build a just & inclusive democracy
  • Demonstrated leadership, ability to think strategically, ability to constructively evaluate team members and workflow, and respond to a rapidly-evolving organizing landscape
  • Capable of problem-solving, collaboration, and proactive communication
  • Strong interpersonal, speaking, and writing skills

About the Task Force for Democracy

We’re a youth & volunteer-led team organizing students across 6 campaigns to demand a democracy that works for our generation — not billionaires & corporations! We work alongside movement partners to center young people in the fight against advancing autocracy.

We’re nonpartisan. We don’t do electoral politics. We stay focused on ending the root causes of inequality in our democracy. Our campaigns aim to end structural inequality across different areas of our democracy, and include: fighting voter suppression & money in politics, organizing students under autocracy, stopping a dangerous constitutional convention that would roll back our rights, using transparency laws to hold power accountable, and more!
