Founded in 1955, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world, with more than 120,000members. NASW works to enhance the professional growth and development of its members, to create and maintain professional standards, and to advance sound social policies .
I. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Provides strategic development and support to NASW Foundation fund raising programs and initiatives, outreach, communications, grant procurement, and volunteer leader support. Assists in the coordination and execution of Foundation fund raising activities. Work activities are performed under general supervision.
II. BASIC
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Raises restricted and unrestricted funds and funding for annual giving program as well as specific priorities and programs. Oversees and manages specific fundraising initiatives and programs. Provides strategic and technical assistance as needed, including: research, identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors.
- Works with Director to develop an annual plan for donor development (organizational and individual) including goals, program design, budget and communications plan to include targeted audiences, planned mailings and activities, and other new development initiatives.
- Researches individual, corporate, foundation, and government prospects and opportunities for follow-up. Helps develop strategies for soliciting sources of support for new and ongoing programs.
- Assists Director in the development of Foundation operational procedures, program plans, financial projections, and budget preparations. Works with CFO’s office to ensure accurate accounting of income from awards, grants and contributions. Prepares periodic and ad hoc reports on results.
- Oversees and monitors the timely and efficient implementation of national Foundation programs and advises in the implementation of Foundation local chapter programs. Provides support for existing Foundation relationships and assists with the development of new relationships. Works with volunteer leaders and staff to help build a development strategy for each program.
- Works with Director in coordinating grant proposal efforts on behalf of the Foundation. Works with an Institutional Review Board. Assists in the preparation and drafting of proposals and related correspondence to outside sources. Monitors program implementation and compliance. In addition, this position monitors highly confidential financial data of donors, corporations, and organizations.
- Performs various public relations duties for the Foundation and its programs. Works with communications staff. Implements a communications plan that includes routine outreach to NASW chapters and other Foundation constituencies; timely updating of the NASW website; and the dissemination of information about Foundation accomplishments and activities. Works with Director of NASW Foundation to create annual report for Foundation. Keeps NASW News and National Office staff updated appropriately.
- Represents the Development Office, the Foundation, and the Association at various events and committee meetings, as needed.
- Provides oversight of identified special projects. Drafts and monitors budgets and financial matters for Foundation programs. Monitors Foundation and implemented grants’ budgets.
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities, as required.
III. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Interacts with all levels of NASW staff on matters relating to the Foundation. - External:
Interacts with NASW Foundation, volunteer leadership, chapters, donors, prospects, and public.
