The Grants Manager at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington (BGCGW) is an accomplished professional with a collaborative, interpersonal style who is passionate about the youth we serve and about building BGCGW’s fundraising, as we grow our grants and philanthropy by 10% annually. You are results-driven, methodical, and can diligently manage multiple projects with competing deadlines. You must possess proven experience with fundraising and technical writing.

POSITION AT BGCGW

The Grants Manager serves as a member of BGCGW’s Resource Development team and is responsible for developing and submitting proposals to include government, corporate and private foundation funders. This position reports to the Chief Development Officer and works closely with BGCGW’s Finance, Impact & Innovation, and Operations teams. The Grants Manager will collaborate with senior management, funders, and occasionally with board members while managing proposals across multiple BGCGW departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and write proposals for submission to corporate, foundation, and government/NGO organizations; provide exemplary technical writing and editing on proposal narratives.
  • Clearly explain the mission and importance of the work of BGCGW with potential funders by preparing and submitting grant applications and creative proposals for support; this includes drafting dynamic narratives while also compiling program budgets and other supporting materials.
  • Represent BGCGW in funder meetings and serve as an external facing fundraiser.
  • Transform ideas into grant concept papers, proposals and reports, demonstrating the need for our programs and BGCGW’s unique ability to serve youth and teens in the Greater Washington region.
  • Collaborate regularly across departments to pursue Club and region-specific funding opportunities; build relationships with Club-facing staff to properly understand and communicate the needs of our members.
  • Other writing duties as assigned.
  • Work closely with the Finance & Administration Manager to track deliverables as described in award letters and LOAs. Inform all stakeholders of new grant awards and support the cross-departmental understanding of each fund’s purpose and expected outcomes.
  • Ensure grant reporting is accurate and submitted on time by working with the Finance, Impact & Innovation, and Operations teams on quarterly/mid-year reports, final reports and other funder stewardship reports.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with program officers and key grantmaking stakeholders from foundations, government, and corporations to ensure continued funding year-over-year.
  • Maintain the weekly grant pipeline and calendar to ensure timely submission of all grant applications. Report out to the Resource Development weekly on any updates to the pipeline.
  • Ensure moves management actions are recorded in development database on a weekly basis and work with the Director of Data Services for reports that track the progress of grant prospects.
  • Conduct background research to support program development and attend webinars for grant submission.
You’ll Need to Bring
  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of seven years nonprofit fundraising experience including five years of grant writing experience with demonstrated and verifiable success at securing grant awards.
  • Commitment to the mission of BGCGW – must adhere to the highest ethical standards, demonstrate an empathetic disposition and perseverance, and convey sensitivity to the needs of donors, staff and volunteers.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills are essential, including the ability to write technical as well as comprehensive and compelling copy for a range of fundraising needs.
  • Highly organized and deadline-driven, with a proven ability to manage competing priorities, juggle multiple deadlines, and consistently deliver on time.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, coordination, and follow through.
  • High degree of sophistication, self-confidence, and self-motivation; ability to keep calm under pressure.
