Learn Serve’s mission is to equip high school students from diverse backgrounds with the entrepreneurial vision, tenacity, confidence, and leadership skills needed to tackle social challenges at home and abroad as part of our after school program. Just as important, students learn about themselves and their power as leaders equipped to make positive change. Learn Serve’s VISTA project will deepen programming and expand our community with the goal to give even more young people the opportunity to become leaders and changemakers.

Learn Serve is located in Washington, DC, a hub for education, government, and non‑profit sectors, offering unique experiences in the nation’s capital. Learn Serve is growing to serve even more young people across the country and world, and the Community Outreach VISTA will be key in helping us support students in important ways.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of a strategic framework for the volunteer program, aligning efforts to enhance volunteer engagement, retention, and impact across both local and international initiatives.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive outreach and marketing strategy to promote Learn Serve’s community engagement goals. Engage local community members and help build collaborative opportunities in our programming.
  • Pilot and track community engagement strategies to determine best practices for volunteer program sustainability and growth.

  • Belief in the power of young people to create change!
  • Passion for youth development and leadership
  • Excellent communication skills, and specifically working 1:1 with students
  • Experience in youth development or educational field
  • Team player
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Experience in project development and management, with an eye for detail
  • Ability to think creatively and critically in developing new ideas and strategies

Member Duties

The Community Outreach VISTA is an integral role as we develop key partnerships and increase engagement and support across programs. The VISTA will work with our Program Director and Site Manager to support the growth of Learn Serve’s program infrastructure, specifically focusing on compliance and outreach strategies to grow the scope and impact of community outreach and engagement. The VISTA member will also contribute to the overall success of our VISTA team, often collaborating with other VISTAs on various projects.

All VISTAs will participate in professional development, explore Washington, DC, and participate in fun activities as we grow as a team.
