The CMSC leads a bold, integrated strategy for communications, development, marketing, and events across LWVUS (501(c)(4)) and the League of Women Voters Education Fund (501(c)(3)). This position works closely with the CEO and Board to grow the League’s influence, expand its organizational footprint, and deepen its impact.
A visionary and senior leader, the CMSC oversees the Communications (including Events and Marketing) and Development departments, ensuring alignment in messaging, brand positioning, narrative strategy, donor engagement, and marketing execution. This includes leading strategic marketing initiatives, overseeing multi-channel campaigns, and maintaining brand consistency across digital, print, and event platforms.
The CMSC supervises two senior leaders (the National Development Director and the Senior Director of Communications) and the Director of Events to align brand and messaging across major League-led events.
This position requires excellent leadership, management, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and a deep understanding of strategic communications, marketing, fundraising, and movement-building. The CMSC must bring vision, a marketing mindset, and a collaborative working style to ensure the League leads with purpose, inspires public action, and remains financially and reputationally strong for the long term.
This is a hybrid position that requires frequent attendance at events in the DC area and regular visits to the DC Headquarters, at least twice a week.
The salary for this position is $210,000 annually.
