What You’ll Do

The Events and Communications Associate supports how The Bulwark shows up in the world—by helping execute live events, media engagement, and rapid-response communications that extend the reach and impact of our journalism. You’ll juggle multiple projects, anticipate needs, and remain focused and organized in public-facing moments. In addition to supporting event logistics, you will work closely with the VP, Marketing Communications & Live Events on our communications efforts, from rapid-response moments to long-term campaign planning.

This position offers meaningful hands-on exposure to both events and communications and is well-suited to someone early in their career who is eager to learn and take on increasing responsibility over time.

In this role, you will:

  • Marketing & Events
    • Support the planning and execution of live, virtual, and hybrid events, with a strong focus on audience and talent experience, from preparation through day-of execution.
    • Draft and send attendee communications, and respond to audience inquiries via email and social media to ensure a positive, professional event experience.
    • Coordinate across internal teams and external partners, including vendors, graphic designers, and content teams, to ensure events are well-run and on schedule.
    • Research and build targeted audience lists, track registrations and attendance, and help analyze event performance.
    • Manage event logistics, including booking photographers, coordinating travel and accommodations, and tracking, organizing, and shipping event materials (signage, swag, collateral).
    • Troubleshoot issues in real time, managing competing priorities while responding thoughtfully and effectively.
    • Provide responsive customer service support for event- and merchandise-related inquiries.
    • Maintain accurate records of contracts and agreements, and process expense reports and invoices related to events.
  • Communications
    • Book and coordinate interviews for spokespeople, managing scheduling, logistics, and follow-up with exceptional attention to detail.
    • Monitor media coverage and breaking news, and provide timely press clips and summaries to internal teams.
    • Respond quickly, clearly, and accurately to incoming inquiries from reporters, escalating as appropriate.
    • Maintain and update media lists and databases.
What You Bring
  • 1-2+ years of professional experience in events, marketing, media relations, executive support, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines at once.
  • Experience operating in a supporting, execution-focused role, with an eagerness to learn and grow over time.
  • Clear written communication skills and comfort corresponding with a range of stakeholders.
  • A collaborative approach and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proactive and reliable, with a strong sense of follow-through and anticipation of needs.
  • Experience supporting live events and communications efforts is a plus.
  • Experience coordinating with VIPs or executive-level stakeholders is a plus.
  • Genuine interest in media and in politics and public discourse.
  • Willingness to travel and work non-standard hours, including occasional weekends or evenings, as needed.
What We Offer
  • Full employer-sponsored health plans
  • 401(k) plan with employer match
  • Generous vacation and paid time off
  • Commuter benefits and Employee Assistance Program
