Capital Clubhouse is a pioneer in the District of Columbia, providing a supportive, restorative environment based on the International Standards for Clubhouse Programs. Central to its mission is the "Work-Ordered Day," a model that empowers members to regain their confidence, learn vocational skills, and reintegrate into the community through meaningful work and peer support.
As a member-led community, Capital Clubhouse operates on the belief that every individual has the potential to contribute and lead a fulfilling life. The Clubhouse provides a bridge to employment, serving as a vital resource for the diverse populations across the District's eight wards.
Position Summary
Capital Clubhouse is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as its next Executive Director. This individual will be a passionate advocate for the Clubhouse Model, combining a deep belief in the restorative power of community with the strategic and financial acumen necessary to grow the organization's impact. The Executive Director is the "face" of the Clubhouse, responsible for fostering a culture of equity, managing complex government relations, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the program through robust fundraising and grant cultivation with support from the Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management, Operations, and Board Partnership
- Exercise high-level financial and fiscal acumen, managing budgets, financial reporting, and nonprofit accounting complexities.
- Partner effectively with a volunteer Board of Directors to strengthen governance, manage leadership transitions, and provide ongoing board member development and coaching.
- Leverage technology to improve overall organizational efficiency.
- Lead through Consensus-Based Leadership, ensuring that members and staff are true partners in decision-making and organizational governance.
- Develop and implement a strategic vision that translates long-term goals into tactical operational milestones.
- Serve as the primary advocate for Capital Clubhouse, raising public awareness and reducing the stigma associated with mental health conditions.
- Identify and pursue new, diverse revenue streams to ensure the financial health and growth of the Clubhouse.
- Develop cultivation and solicitation strategies to expand the donor pipeline and increase organizational assets.
- Foster a trauma-informed workplace culture that prioritizes staff development, work/life balance, and mutual respect.
- Supervise and mentor a dedicated team, providing opportunities for professional growth and leadership within the Clubhouse model.
- Oversee the implementation of Transitional, Supported, and Independent Employment programs.
- Navigate the complexities of the DC Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) and local legislative processes to advocate for funding and policy support.
- Build and strengthen relationships with local government officials, civic leaders, and partner nonprofit organizations.

- Fundraising and Financial Management Success:
Demonstrated experience in securing foundation and government grants as well as managing an organization's finances. - Belief in the Clubhouse Model: A deep commitment to the International Standards and the "Work-Ordered Day."
- Leadership Style:
Proven ability to lead via collaboration and consensus, valuing the voices of members and staff equally. - Mediation
Skills:
Ability to de-escalate conflicts when they arise. - Cultural

Skills:
