Description
The Manager, Mobilization and Engagement plays a critical role in advancing the League of Women Voters’ mission to empower voters and defend democracy by helping the organization live up to its equity commitments. While the League’s volunteer leadership has been shaped by dominant cultural norms common in civic spaces, our work is unapologetically focused on reaching communities that have been historically excluded from political power.
This role ensures that organizing strategies center on diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), racial justice, and accessibility, while strengthening the League’s regional organizing model and translating national strategy into action that builds durable, inclusive civic power.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Mobilization and Engagement
, the Manager leads a team of five Regional Organizers (ROs) covering the Northeast, Southeast, Southwest, Mountain, and Western regions. The Manager provides strong leadership, project coordination, and team accountability to ensure organizers effectively execute state League-level organizing plans aligned with League of Women Voters of the United States organizational priorities, timelines, and goals. This role also supports capacity-building among state and local League leaders through movement-building tactics, education-based training, and integrated mobilization strategies, including online-to-offline and relational organizing.
This position is central to advancing the League’s toward an equitable, inclusive, and participatory democracy.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES People Leadership & Team Development- Lead, supervise, and coach five Regional Organizers to ensure effective implementation of national organizing strategies across assigned regions.
- Provide regular check-ins, feedback, and professional development opportunities to cultivate a high-performing, inclusive team culture.
- Foster psychological safety and empower team members to innovate and lead.
- Oversee organizers’ state-level organizing plans, including work plans, milestones, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Collaborate closely with the Senior Director to coordinate priorities, flag risks, and support problem-solving.
- Manage team calendars and workflows to maintain momentum and accountability across regions.
- Design and implement public engagement opportunities to recruit and mobilize members and volunteers through tactics such as text banks, friend banks, canvassing, phone banks, relational organizing, and other voter education and GOTV efforts.
- Support voter protection efforts, including rapid response organizing and coordination with state and local partners during election cycles.
- Promote coalition building by fostering relationships with local, state, and national partners, with a focus on supporting members in building effective relationships and partnerships with BIPOC-led organizations and grassroots coalitions.
- Collaborate with internal key partners to develop resources that deepen DEI work, grow leadership, and strengthen campaign effectiveness.
- Support League leaders in building organizing capacity and implementing inclusive practices.
- Monitor, evaluate, and report on organizing efforts using data and performance metrics to assess progress and inform adjustments.
- Manage program budgets and monitor expenses to ensure alignment with goals and responsible resource use.
- Produce regular progress reports for internal stakeholders, including staff leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Coordinate with internal teams such as Education and Training, Communications, and Data and Evaluation to ensure integrated strategies and consistent messaging.
- Represent the League in external coalition convenings, events, and conferences, and serve as a liaison to funders when needed.
