Overview
The Safety Operations Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety programs to ensure a safe working environment for all employees at First Choice Construction Company. This role focuses on maintaining compliance with OSHA regulations, preventing workplace injuries, and fostering a culture of safety awareness throughout the organization. This senior leadership position directly supervises Safety Manager(s) assigned to individual projects and coordinates company-wide safety initiatives across all active job sites.
The Safety Operations Manager serves as the primary safety authority for the organization and reports directly to the General Manager.
- Safety Program Development & Oversight:
Develop and maintain company wide safety policies, procedures, and programs specific to masonry operations; establish standardized safety inspection and documentation systems across all projects; design and implement behaviorbased safety observation programs; create and maintain safety metrics dashboard and data analysis systems; develop site-specific safety improvement action plans; implement predictive safety analytics using leading indicators; establish sustainable processes for continuous safety improvement - Safety Manager Supervision & Development:
Direct supervision of Safety Manager(s) assigned to individual projects; assign Safety Managers to projects based on complexity, size, and risk assessment; conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback; mentor and develop Safety Managers technical and leadership skills; review and approve Safety Manager project assignments, reports, and documentation; ensure Safety Managers have necessary resources, training, and support to succeed; address personnel issues and performance concerns promptly and professionally - Inspections & Compliance:
Conduct and document regular safety inspections of job sites, scaffolding, equipment, and facilities using Raken; monitor compliance with OSHA regulations, state laws, and industry standards relevant to masonry construction; prepare all project-specific safety submittals, including JHAs, emergency plans, silica exposure plans, fall protection plans, and other required documentation; maintain accurate safety records, documentation, and reporting systems; keep current on industry safety trends, regulations, and best practices - Incident Management & Investigation:
Investigate accidents, near-misses, and safety incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions; complete all required documentation and follow-up for safety incidents; ensure safety adherence or lack thereof is well documented; implement corrective action tracking with target closure within 30 days; support workers' compensation claims management process - Training & Culture Development:
Lead weekly toolbox talks and monthly safety meetings for field personnel; provide safety training for new hires and conduct ongoing training for existing employees on general construction and masonry-specific hazards; maintain records of employee training certifications and facilitate renewals; conduct employee safety culture surveys and analyze results; create recognition programs for safety excellence and peer coaching; launch safety committee with monthly meetings and structured agendas - Coordination & Communication:
Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and foremen to integrate safety protocols into project planning; evaluate and recommend safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE); maintain clear authority to stop work for safety violations; present comprehensive safety assessment reports to management; communicate regularly with operations team on project schedules and safety integration
Required
- 5+ years of experience in construction safety, preferably in masonry or related trades
- OSHA 30hour certification required; OSHA 500/510 certification preferred
- Certification as a Safety Professional (CSP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) preferred
