What You’ll Do

The Lead Custodian and Trainer/Job Coach will be responsible for supporting the cleanliness, safety, and daily operations of the facility while guiding and mentoring fellow custodial team members.

Job Coach & Trainer Duties
  • Help coordinate daily cleaning tasks and be a go-to person for team questions or direction.
  • Work alongside custodial team members, including adults with disabilities, providing hands-on guidance and encouragement.
  • Assist in showing new team members how to clean properly and follow safety rules.
  • Keep track of cleaning schedules and let management know if anything is missed or delayed.
  • Set a strong example by working safely, professionally, and with care.
  • Let your manager know when supplies run low or equipment needs fixing.
  • Encourage teamwork and help create a work environment where everyone can learn, grow, and do their best.
Custodian Duties
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms, including sinks, toilets, mirrors, and floors.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and clean floors in offices, halls, classrooms, and shared spaces.
  • Empty trash and recycling bins and take waste to the proper disposal area.
  • Wipe down windows, doors, walls, and glass surfaces inside the building.
  • Restock supplies like soap, toilet paper, and paper towels in restrooms and breakrooms.
  • Dust desks, shelves, and other surfaces.
  • Keep entrance areas, stairs, and elevators clean and safe.
  • Check for maintenance problems, like broken lights or leaks, and report them.
  • Lock and unlock doors and make sure the building is secure at the beginning and end of shifts.
  • Safely use cleaning tools like vacuums, floor machines, and cleaning carts.
  • Use cleaning products carefully and follow safety rules.
Day in the Life Start of Day
  • Say hello to team members, including those with disabilities, and explain what tasks need to be done for the day.
  • Hand out cleaning tools or equipment, making sure everyone understands what they need to do.
  • Show how to do new tasks or follow safety steps, if needed.
Mid-Shift
  • Help the team with cleaning and maintenance jobs throughout the day.
  • Coach team members by showing them how to build skills and work more independently.
  • Check how things are going, give helpful tips, and solve problems when needed.
  • Keep an eye on busy areas like lobbies, restrooms, and shared spaces to make sure they stay clean.
  • Watch that everyone is using tools and equipment safely and following safety rules.
Wrap-Up
  • Help the team finish end-of-day jobs like taking out trash and doing final cleaning touches.
  • Put away supplies in the right place and clean shared tools and equipment.
  • Talk with team members about what went well and review anything that needs more practice.
What You’ll Need
  • Minimum of 1 year of hands on custodial or janitorial experience, with strong knowledge of cleaning practices and safety procedures.
  • Good communication skills and a helpful, team-oriented attitude.
  • Comfortable giving simple instructions and demonstrating cleaning tasks when needed.
  • Ability to stay organized, follow daily routines, and keep track of supplies or maintenance needs.
  • Shows up on time, works hard, and stays positive throughout the day.
