Direct‑hire opportunity in Washington, D.C. We're hiring an experienced Practice Assistant (Litigation) to support active matters in federal and local courts across D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.
If you're the person who keeps litigation moving -- accurate filings, clean formatting (TOCs/TOAs), disciplined DMS, and deadlines that don't slip -- this will feel familiar. We're looking for someone who takes initiative, cares about systems and organization, and keeps an eye on what's next. WhatYou'll Do
- Court Filings:
Handle federal and local court filings across D.C., Virginia, and Maryland, including ECF submissions and compliance with court rules and deadlines. - Advanced Litigation Documents:
Prepare, revise, and finalize complex pleadings and filings, including accurate Tables of Contents and Tables of Authorities using advanced MS Word functionality. - Litigation Awareness:
Maintain working knowledge of case posture, procedural steps, and upcoming deadlines to support attorneys throughout the life of a matter. - Practice Operations:
Maintain disciplined electronic files within the DMS, support time entry and billing coordination, and provide coverage across litigation teams as needed.
- 10-12 years of experience supporting litigators as a practice assistant or litigation secretary
- Recent experience in a large law firm environment
- Hands‑on federal and local filing experience in D.C., Virginia, and Maryland
- Advanced proficiency in MS Word, including Tables of Contents, Tables of Authorities, styles, and complex formatting
- Strong experience with legal document management systems and standardized file organization
- Experience supporting complex, active litigation matters from early stages through resolution

37.5 hours/week - Compensation: $55,000-$99,000 annually, depending on experience
