Under the direction of the Disputes Technology & Services (DTS) practice group leader and DTS Paralegal Manager, the Paralegal will provide professional services and support to Real Estate and other Global Projects lawyers and assist in delivering superior and comprehensive legal advice and support. The paralegal will operate as part of a team comprised of lawyers and staff with the goal of providing high level service to both internal and external clients.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with excellent benefits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in title and survey review for both commercial real estate matters as well as other Global Projects transactions, including preparation of title objection letters and responses.
  • Assist in closings and post-closing matters, including organizing and attending closings, preparing closing document packets and preparing post-closing document binders.
  • Assist in the review and preparation of client files for production.
  • Summarize transaction documents, including leases, and review or preparation of miscellaneous corporate organizational documents, such as resolutions, by laws and certificates.
  • Act as liaison with states which entails ordering good standing certificates, copies of formation documents, and UCC searches.
  • Coordinate filing of formation documents and amendments thereto.
  • Coordinate filings with government agencies and county clerk offices.
  • Retrieve filings as requested by lawyers.
  • Organize and maintain precedent files.
  • Assist with diligence.
  • Prepare and update closing checklists.
  • Attend to daily administrative matters.
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervising lawyer(s).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree strongly preferred. Years of experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 3-5 years’ work experience in a law firm environment, or related professional experience.
  • Experience with support for acquisitions and joint ventures in the real estate area.
  • Extensive knowledge and skill in utilizing the Internet, proprietary software research tools (e.g. Lexis Nexis); experience with legal research tools preferred.
  • Handling of audit request letters, preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft productivity tools (Advanced):
    Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.
  • Ability to learn and use databases.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals.
  • Ability to proofread materials for contextual, grammatical, typographical or spelling errors.

High Level of Contact With:

  • Lawyers, paralegals, and other legal support staff
  • Disputes Technology & Services (DTS) Practice Group Leader
  • DTS Paralegal Manager

Moderate Level of Contact With:

  • Client representatives

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to spend long periods of time working at computer workstation.

Work Conditions and Environment:

  • Position is full-time and requires a five-day work week and standard hours as outlined in the Firm policy manual. Work sometimes requires more than the regularly scheduled hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • This role will require a minimum of three days per week (or at least 60%) present in the office; occasional remote support is permitted.
  • Must be available to work overtime, including weekend hours, when necessary to meet established deadlines or stay current with occasional peaks in workload. Must be willing to change regular work schedule to meet the needs of the Firm.
  • Position may require occasional travel.
