Desktop Technician V

Location:

Washington, DC

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support changing and evolving system software needs when requested by the Government.
  • Follow all software installation procedures as developed by the Government.
  • Provide support for hardware installation and configuration to include desktop computers, laptops, tablet devices, smartphones, printers, scanners, network routers, switches, servers, UPS, PBX devices, interactive whiteboard, projectors, monitors, cell phones, evolving devices.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of DOI/IA computer components and equipment assigned to them by the government.
  • Participate in OIMT User Support conference calls as required by the field support manager for training and new IT requirements.
  • Support other locations, enterprise-wide via remote desktop support tools.
  • Receive technical information, guidance and processes from the assigned Federal Functional/Task Lead.
  • Provide established technical standards and advise on approved technologies.
  • Responsible for maintaining a neat and orderly cable plant as well as ensuring physical security policies are followed for server rooms, etc.
  • Assist TIER III support in troubleshooting higher level issues including server or network switching, and lifting equipment weighing from 50 to up to 75 pounds to install servers and network switches in equipment racks.
  • May need to participate in the execution of special projects, such as: significant desktop or site migrations; significant technology implementations; significant move of a DOI/IA site; addressing a significant security issue; assisting program offices with development and implementation of new IT services or technologies; providing temporary support at alternative locations; serving as SME for information technology projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or combination of education and experience, or tradeoff between all of them.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related technical experience in supporting desktop computers, laptops, mobile devices, printers, scanners, LANs, servers and network switches.
  • 1+ year experience managing a staff of at least 5 employees.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to support Microsoft operating systems.
  • Working knowledge of general office software such as Microsoft Office and Google Mail.
  • Ability to support specialized software such as GIS, AutoCAD and software unique to Indian Affairs.
  • Ability to work with minimal guidance.
  • Ability to travel to other locations when requested.
  • Ability to support short‑notice emergency tasks and 24/7 on‑call support.
  • Ability to develop project management documentation.
  • Ability to work without guidance.
  • Ability to manage and initiate projects.
