Title: Human Resources Manager (HRM)

Location: District of Columbia, Washington, DC 20024

Salary Range: $80,000 - $87,000 per year

SJCS supports individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities as well as adults and children experiencing hunger and homelessness in four states and the District of Columbia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the daily workflow of the department.
  • Handle discipline and termination of employees per company policy.
  • Provide support and guidance to HR generalists, management, and other staff on complex, special, and sensitive questions; administer routine tasks such as providing reasonable accommodation, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and handling termination.
  • Oversee employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; recommend best practices; review policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train new staff as needed; fill the role when a recruiter is unavailable (e.g., vacation, sick, or vacant role).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and an attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment‑related laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems.
Additional Credit
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of four years of human resources management experience will be considered in place of a degree.
  • SHRM‑CP or SHRM‑SCP is highly desired.
