Position: Staff Clinician, Student Health Center

Staff Clinician, Student Health Center

The George Washington University (GWU) seeks a dedicated Staff Clinician to join our Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) team. As Staff Clinician, you will provide comprehensive mental health services to our student community, including individual and group counseling; crisis intervention; outreach; and consultation. Your evidence‑based, culturally responsive interventions will support the physical and emotional well‑being of students and foster academic success.

Responsibilities
  • Provide initial consultations, individual and group counseling, and care coordination to a diverse population of students.
  • Assess, evaluate, and diagnose a wide range of psychological disorders and personal challenges in undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Offer outreach services during the regular work day and after hours as needed, including academic support programs, educational workshops, and faculty and staff training.
  • Deliver culturally responsive psychotherapy and demonstrate multicultural competence with underrepresented and underserved populations.
  • Maintain accurate and ethically sound documentation and electronic medical records in compliance with legal and professional standards.
  • Serve as the designated authority for mental health crisis support on a rotating basis during the workday.
  • Attend training and professional development opportunities to maintain D.C. licensure and acquire continuing education credits (CEU).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in psychology, social work, or counseling.
  • One year of applied clinical experience in counseling.
  • License in Washington, D.C. required, or must be obtained within six months of hire.
  • Independent license in appropriate mental health area, including license to practice in the District of Columbia or ability to obtain license prior to start date.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working clinically with undergraduate and graduate college students.
  • Demonstrated competence in culturally competent clinical and crisis intervention skills.
Location

Foggy Bottom, Washington, D.C. (Campus-based; occasional nights and weekends).
