Cayaba Care is working to reimagine how maternity care is delivered by providing trusted support to expectant moms and their families, including care navigation, doula support, lactation assistance, nutrition, housing, transportation and more. We support expectant mothers with health-related social needs and meet them where they are, without replacing the primary obstetric care relationship.

The Role

Cayaba Care is seeking a full-time Maternity Navigator (MN) to be a trusted partner and advocate for expectant and new mothers in Washington, D.C. MNs are hired from the communities we serve and build deep, meaningful relationships with the families they support. You will act as a bridge between the healthcare system and the community, ensuring that each mother feels heard, empowered, and equipped with the tools she needs for a healthy and joyful pregnancy.

This role will primarily work with Cayaba members in the greater Washington, D.C. area.

Work Schedule

Paid hourly; the schedule is as follows:

  • Tuesday & Thursday: 10am-6pm (hybrid)
  • Saturday: 1x per month, 9am-2pm (remote)
  • One week on-call per month
Responsibilities
  • Meet with mothers virtually and in-person, educating them on critical health topics (e.g., recognizing urgent maternal warning signs, preeclampsia, postpartum recovery).
  • Educate members on birth positions and breathing techniques to promote confidence and preparedness.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary care team, attending daily huddles and escalating clinical issues as needed.
  • Maintain clear and accurate documentation of all care interactions to ensure high-quality, coordinated support.
  • Build trusting relationships with mothers and provide support via call or messaging between visits.
  • Connect families to community resources to address barriers such as food insecurity, transportation, or housing challenges.
  • Represent the community by sharing insights to shape programs that meet mothers’ needs.
  • Attend administrative meetings and adhere to Cayaba policies and procedures to maintain high standards of care.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in community health, patient advocacy, or healthcare navigation as a Certified Perinatal Community Health Worker or Certified Medical Assistant
  • Strong understanding of challenges facing expectant mothers and experience delivering prenatal and postpartum health education
  • Excellent listening and communication skills with compassion and cultural sensitivity
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently in the field while staying connected to a team of specialists
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation; compliant with state inspection, registration, and insurance requirements
  • Access to home internet and a phone with internet access
  • Tech-savvy and able to quickly learn documentation in our platforms (e.g., Athena One, Welkin, macOS)
Nice to have (optional)
  • Willingness to obtain a doula certification with Cayaba support and provide birth support for members
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Start-up experience or adaptability in a fast-evolving environment

This is a full-time hourly position with a pay range between $18-$28/hr exact compensation depends on years of direct relevant experience.
