Director of Environmental Services / Housekeeping

Establishes, directs, and sustains a fiscally responsible and measurable housekeeping and linen program across the hospital. The director leads a housekeeping operation that provides a sparkling clean, hygienic, and safe environment that is patient-centered, sustainable (i.e., green cleaning and integrated pest management), aligned with customer demands, and yields strong results measured by patient satisfaction scores and internal key performance indicators within the approved budget.

Responsible for compliance with applicable Federal and District regulations including, but not limited to, EPA, DDOE, DOH, and OSHA.

The Director of Environmental Services / Housekeeping is a key member of the GW Hospital Leadership Team. The hospital emphasizes professional development and leadership opportunities. Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the environmental services and housekeeping programs to ensure cleanliness, safety, and patient-centered service.
  • Maintain fiscal responsibility and achieve measurable outcomes aligned with budget and KPIs.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations (EPA, DDOE, DOH, OSHA).
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership and other departments to support overall patient care goals.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 3–5 years of relevant management experience required, or 8 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree, plus management experience as required.
  • Previous experience in a hospital environment required
  • Experience working in a union environment is preferred
  • Experience using LEAN or other similar performance improvement methods to transform operations is preferred
