Overview
PRN ECMO Specialist-RN role at Children s National Hospital. This position involves providing comprehensive patient care for ECMO patients and collaborating with the healthcare team to plan and deliver care. The role may be transferred into regular staffing for urgent or emergent situations.
Responsibilities- Provide patient assessments and recommendations for continuity of care related to ECMO.
- Collaborate with ECMO physicians and the healthcare team to develop and implement an individualized plan of care with patients and families.
- Assist in ECMO cannulation and decannulation; priming and initiating ECMO circuitry; monitor ECMO circuit function and patient status (ACT levels, blood gases, metabolic status) within defined parameters.
- Maintain ECMO equipment, troubleshoot circuit issues, and manage other extracorporeal support systems as needed.
- Participate in data collection for the ELSO database and support inventory and equipment reviews.
- Support clinical research activities by following established protocols and assisting other specialists as needed.
- Provide regular in-service training and updates to part-time specialists and critical care staff.
- Act as a resource for teaching and learning, and participate in competency reviews per ECMO policy.
- Bachelor s Degree or Graduate from an approved school of nursing. Must be licensed to practice in the District of Columbia (Required).
- BSN (Preferred).
- Minimum
Work Experience:
2 years related clinical experience in a comparable setting (Required). - 1 year pediatric/neonatal experience (Preferred).
- Successful completion of CNMC hospital orientation.
- Prior ECMO experience preferred; CNMC ECMO course required within 6 months of hire.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and communication skills (oral and written).
- Decisive under tense, emotional, and stressful situations; ability to solve clinical problems and provide compassionate patient- and family-centered care.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations; basic computer skills required; entry-level Excel and database management preferred.
- Maintain clinical skills and continuing education credits for licensure.

Work Schedule:
7pm - 7am. - Base pay range: $75,108.80/yr - $/yr.
