Role Summary

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist is responsible for providing clinical support to ambulatory oncology patients at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. Responsibilities include assisting with pharmacy–related questions and clinical issues, providing patient education focused on anti-cancer therapies, supporting the prescribing of anti-cancer therapies and supportive care, and ensuring access to discharge medications in collaboration with social workers, case managers, and The Johns Hopkins Care at Home Outpatient Pharmacies.

As a member of the ambulatory care team, the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist provides direct patient care and helps facilitate access to specialty medications, regardless of dispensing location. The role works collaboratively with The Johns Hopkins Care at Home Outpatient Pharmacy team which supports financial assessment, prior authorization, patient assistance, grant coordination, and dispensing for specialty medications.

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Medical Oncology provides pharmacy support primarily to patients with malignancies including central nervous system, gynecologic, head and neck, and sarcoma. The role also collaborates with pharmacy team members for secondary coverage of other solid tumor disease states.

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist provides education to students, residents, pharmacists, and other health care practitioners and serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students and pharmacy residents in ASHP-accredited PGY-1 and PGY-2 programs. Additionally, the role supports institutional research and participates in hospital and departmental committees, including formulary management and policy development.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Maryland.
  • Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy resulting in Pharm.

    D. degree, or B.S. and 1 year of experience required
  • PGY1 residency, and PGY2 oncology specialty residency with experience in solid tumor malignancies preferred
  • BCOP certification required within two years of start date
  • Intravenous (IV) Certification (includes aseptic technique and hazardous substance handling) within 90 days of hire unless exempted by Division Director as beyond the scope of practice
  • BLS certification within 1 year of hire required

Salary Range

Minimum $58.41/hour - Maximum $96.46/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. Salary discussions may occur during candidate screening calls and prior to any subsequent compensation discussion.
