General Summary of Position

Med Star Washington Hospital Center - Washington, D.C.

Are you passionate about advancing heart failure care and supporting patients through life‑saving technology? Med Star Washington Hospital Center is seeking a Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Coordinator to join our nationally recognized cardiovascular program.

In this vital role, you will coordinate and manage all aspects of our VAD program, including both FDA‑approved and investigational devices. You'll play a central part in clinical operations, patient education, regulatory compliance, and research, while collaborating closely with physicians, clinical teams, and industry partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the daily operations of the VAD program, ensuring high‑quality patient care and regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as a clinical expert and resource on all durable VADs, providing inpatient and outpatient support.
  • Participate in and support clinical trials, including data collection, IRB submissions, and audit readiness.
  • Some on‑call responsibilities.
  • Lead and contribute to staff training, education, and patient/family teaching programs.
  • Coordinate and track device inventory and collaborate on quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (RN license in DC required) or Engineering with mechanical circulatory support (VAD) experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive clinical experience in a tertiary care setting.
  • Prior experience with heart failure and VADs preferred.
  • CPR certification.
  • VAD certification preferred within 18 months.
