The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences (SMHS), founded in 1824, is the nation's oldest medical school in the capital and hosts highly ranked programs in health and biomedical sciences.

The laboratory of Dr. Alyssa Huff in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine is seeking a Senior Research Assistant to investigate the neural control of airway protection using mouse models of human disease. Employment Type:

Full‑time. Hours per week: 40.

Work schedule:

Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM. On‑site required.

Responsibilities
  • Animal husbandry, colony management and ear tagging.
  • Assist in mouse stereotaxic surgery and post‑operative care.
  • Assist in behavioral studies, data processing, and analysis.
  • Assist in mouse tissue harvest and processing, including microscopy and immunohistochemistry.
  • Maintain lab organization and manage stocks of buffers, solutions, and supplies.

Perform other work‑related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the PI from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS and at least one year of experience in a related discipline, with the degree conferred by the start date of the position.

  • Ability to work independently, learn actively, and function at a fast pace.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Hiring Range

$18.06 – $27.52 per hour.
